What is a superfood and why is it important

What did you think the first time you heard of the term superfood ? Is it food with a special look, taste, properties or is it just a marketing ploy?

These are foods that can be found on the market, in supermarkets or in organic food stores, and which have a significantly higher concentration of healthy and useful ingredients.

Superfoods have existed on our planet for thousands of years, but only now, during the new wave that promotes healthy living and good habits, has it received the honorable place that has always belonged to it.

What is a superfood

Superfoods include foods that contain high concentrations of valuable ingredients. They grow in Tibet, in the forests of the Amazon, high in the Andes. Is that really so?

There is no need to travel that far, because many fantastic foods are grown and thrive in our country as well.

Is there a difference between superfoods?

Superfoods are rich in essential proteins, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and at the same time contain very few calories. By consuming superfoods you will become more resilient, stronger and healthier.

What is the most famous superfood

Green vegetables

Cabbage, spinach, broccoli ; green vegetables are really a superfood thanks to the vitamins A, C, E, B and K it contains.

Green vegetables contain a lot of fiber and water, which are great for losing weight and maintaining an ideal body weight.

Fish

Fish should be on our plates at least twice a week. It contains calcium, vitamin D and omega 3 fatty acids.

Fish with the highest content of omega-3 fatty acids are salmon, tuna, mackerel, herring, trout, anchovies and sardines.

Berries

The berry fruit is naturally sweet, with intense colors that suggest how rich this antioxidant fruit is. Perhaps the most famous example are the blueberries that are found in the forests of Serbia. They are low in calories and very healthy, high in water, rich in carbohydrates and fiber.

If you are wondering how to prepare them, the simplest way is to mix them with yogurt, which is a great combination.

Eggs

They are often forgotten, and they are an important, healthy and, above all, delicious meal or ingredient in many dishes. One egg has about 70 calories and 6 grams of protein. In addition, egg yolks contain lutein and zeaxanthin – two antioxidants that help preserve vision and protect the skin from UV radiation.

Quinoa

Quinoa is actually the seed of a plant that is related to peas. It is rich in fiber, protein, amino acids, phosphorus, magnesium.

Research shows that 100g of uncooked quinoa contains 10 to 16 grams of plant fiber, which is far more than most other cereals.

Quinoa naturally does not contain gluten, so it is ideal for people who are sensitive to it.

Nuts

Hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts are an excellent source of plant proteins. They also contain unsaturated fats, reducing the risk of heart disease and blood vessels. Nuts are very high in calories, so their intake is limited to only 30-40g per day.
